Initially worked in the hardware store with his father then in the tap and die works as treasurer. Held the family post on the Home Water Co., and the Oak Hill Cemetery Assoc. He was a very generous contributor to charitable and community activities. So much so that he exacerbated the company's financial difficulties during the Great Depression and created significant tension among family members.
Wood married Grace Gilbert Oct 18, 1899. They had one daughter, Adele, who married Richard Bashoar. Sadly the unhappy marriage of Wood and Grace came to and end shortly after their 25th anniversery, in part because of Wood's drinking problems. At the time of his death at age 75, Wood was president, treasurer and general manager of W.L. Brubaker & Bros. Co.
