Arley C. "Jack" Dean Jr., 72, of Charleston passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2005, in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Jack retired from the Kanawha County Board of Education and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Marchel Lina Guthrie.

Mr. Dean is survived by his wife, Julia "Judy" Dean; son and daughter-in-law, David and Daphne Dean of Dunbar; daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Wayne Guthrie of Charleston; sisters, Hazel Reed of Ripley, Virginia Duncan of South Charleston and Janet Harrison of Albuquerque, N.M.; grandson, Matthew Dean; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their special thanks to Thomas Memorial Hospital Cancer Center and In-Home Medical for their assistance in the care of Jack.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 11, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Doyle Young officiating. Burial will follow in Guthrie Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
