Son of Malcolm Leonard and Mary Alice Keith McMillan. Carl married (1) Honora Elkin, and (2) Opal Lane.

MULLINS - Graveside services for Dr. Carl Brailsford McMillan, 88, husband of Opal Lane Tumblin McMillan, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in McMillan Cemetery, with Dr. Kenneth Sandifer officiating. The services will be directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home.

Dr. McMillan died Saturday, July 12, 1997, at his residence after an extended illness. Born July 29, 1908, in Marion County, he was a son of the late Malcolm Leonard and Mary Alice Keith McMillan. Dr. McMillan was a retired physician, having practiced for 40 years. Dr. McMillan was graduated from the University of SC, and received his M.D. from the SC Medical College in Charleston in 1935. He did his internship at the Columbia Hospital.

Dr. McMillan established his medical practice in Lake View in Dillon County, where he resided until entering the US Army in the early days of World War II. He served as an Army Medical Officer, spending about three years in France, Belgium and Germany, where he was attached to General Patton's Fourth Armored Division. Upon his discharge from the army, Dr. McMillan established his medical practice in Mullins and treated patients from Marion, Dillon and Horry counties until his retirement in 1975. Dr. McMillan was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of the home; a son, Carl B. McMillan, Jr. of Lexington; a daughter, Margaret M. Carter of Mullins; a step-son, Tommy Tumblin of Florence; 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and 2 step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, the late Honora Elkin McMillan.
