Avleen F. Diers, 70, of Murphysboro, passed away at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2005, at home.

Mrs. Diers' body has been cremated. A time for relatives and friends to offer condolences to the family of Avleen Diers will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc.

Avleen was born Jan. 27, 1935, to Raymond Ward and Louise (Hauner) Ward.

Mrs. Diers was a retired secretary for Community Unit School District 186 in Murphysboro, and she had been a member of Xi Omega of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for over 40 years.

She had married Jack Etherton and later married Jack Diers on June 6, 1981, in Jackson County, and he survives.

Other survivors include three children, Clint Etherton and his wife Robin Etherton, Jackie Gaffney and her husband Jeff Gaffney, and Lorraine Bigliazzi of her husband Gino Bigliazzi, all of Carbondale; ... one brother, David Ward of Johnston City; and two sisters, Gayle Gillmore and her husband Harry Gillmore of Murphysboro and Laurel Lewis and her husband Brad Lewis of Edwardsville.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
