Ruth Mary Lewis Edwards, 95, formerly of Coatesville, died Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at Jenners Pond in Jennersville, PA

Ruth M. Lewis Edwards, 95, of the Jenners Pond Retirement Community in Jennersville, PA, formerly of 1254 Romansville Rd., Coatesville, PA, a loving wife and mother, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2005, after a long illness. She had been a resident of Jenners Pond for the past four years.

She was the widow of Charles A. Edwards, who preceded her in death in 1990. They were married on June 11, 1950, in Elkton, MD.

Born on February 22, 1910, in Telford, Washington County, TN, she was the daughter of the late Stokes Gudger Lewis and Susie Masters Lewis. She had been a resident of PA since 1918. She was raised on a dairy farm in Cochranville, Penn Township.

She was a 1927 graduate of Avon-Grove High School, West Grove, PA. In 1931, she graduated from West Chester State Teachers College, West Chester, PA, with a BS in Elementary Education.

A retired elementary school teacher, she was employed for many years at East Fallowfield School, Coatesville, PA. Early in her career, she taught in the schools of Penn and Elk Townships in Southern Chester County. She was a former member of the N.S.E.A. and P.S.E.A.

She was a member of Jennersville Church of the Brethren, Jennersville, PA.

In her leisure time, she enjoyed reading, sewing, and gardening. She and her husband traveled extensively throughout the United States.

She is survived by two brothers, Javine F. Lewis, husband of Roma McCardell Lewis of Cochranville, PA, and Chester R. Lewis, husband of Joanne Barczewski Lewis, of New London, PA; two nephews whom she raised as sons, Eugene Edwards, husband of Bonnie Edwards of Parkesburg, and James Edwards, husband of Laura Edwards of Aston; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Isaac H. Lewis of Phoenix, AZ, and Carl H. Lewis of Cochranville, PA; and one sister, Ethel T. Lewis Franklin of Oxford, PA.

Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 11, 2005, at the Harris-Mountain Funeral Home, 1030 E. Lincoln Highway, Coatesville, 610-384-1091. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 11, 2005, from the Harris-Mountain Funeral Home. Officiating clergy will be Rev. Richard Miller of the Jennersville Church of the Brethren.

Interment will be in Glen Run Cemetery, Atglen, PA.
