Funeral services for Deborah Kahl Cowart, 59, of Natchez, who died Monday, March 25, 2013 in Jackson, will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at St. Mary Basilica with Rev. Alfred Camp and Rev. David O'Connor officiating.
Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. Wednesday until time of service at the church.
Mrs. Cowart was born August 30, 1953 in Houston, TX, the daughter of Garland Ray Kahl and Beverly Spizale Kahl. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She taught for over 20 years at Cathedral Elementary and retired from the Eastern National Bookstore. For the last 10 years, one of her greatest joys was being a part of the Tuesday Morning Ecumenical Bible Study. The teaching of scripture and fellowship with these special ladies helped her prepare for this day. Her favorite scripture was: "Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." II Thessalonians 5:16-18
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Garland Ray Kahl, Jr. and John Irvin Kahl.
Survivors include her husband, Curtis Edward Cowart, Jr. of Natchez; one daughter: Elaine Cowart Burke and husband, Jamie; one son: Leston Edward Cowart and wife, Misty, all of Madison, MS; one sister: Tressie Kahl Bas of Arkansas; one brother: Garland Chris Kahl and wife, Michele, of Alabama; four grandchildren: Spencer Riley Burke, Ainsley Belle Burke, Abbey Nicole Cowart, and Seth Edward Cowart, all of Madison, MS; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Pat Biglane, Gary Edwards, Garland Kahl, Bill Foley, Cam Huff, Tommy Joseph, David Smith, and Richard Spence.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tuesday morning Ecumenical Bible Study Group.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cathedral Teacher Fund.
