Services for retired Lt. Col. Glenny Jeff Matthews, 55, will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in Greenlawn Baptist Church with burial in Greenlawn Mausoleum. Visitation will be Friday from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Memorial may be made to the Col. G. Jeff Matthews Memorial Scholarship with The National Guard South Carolina Scholarship Foundation 924 South Stadium Road, Columbia, S. C. 29201-4725.

Col. Matthews died Tuesday, June 25, 1996 at home. A native of Florence County, he was a graduate of Kingstree High School and Erskine College. He was a retired accountant from The Farm Credit Banking System and was owner of Matthews Tax and Financial Consulting. He was an agent for New York Life and a Registered Representative of NYLIFE Securities. He served as an active member of the South Carolina Army National Guard on active duty with the Army and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel with over 33 year of service. Col. Matthews earned numerous medals, commendations badges, decorations and citations. He was a member of the 3-178 Field Artillery Battalion, 151 Field Artillery Battalion, 151 Field Artillery Brigade Headquarters and Commander of the South Carolina National Guard Selected Service Section. Upon retiring from the South Carolina National Guard, he joined the State Guard and was serving as Deputy Commander of the 2nd Highland Brigade at the time of his death.

Surviving are his wife, Dr. Anne Lamb Matthews; a great-nephew, Jeff Manning; a great-niece, Jessica Lamb Manning; a brother, Floyd Matthews, all of Columbia; sisters, Saundra Bazen of Pamplico, Rounette Hagwood and Gain Cannon of Conway and Brenda Howell of Myrtle Beach; an aunt, Geneva Smith of Kingstree; and uncles, S. B. Matthews and Jack Matthews of Lake City.
