Accident Victim Buried in Mojave

Robert Joseph Del Mar, age 44, passed away at Lancaster Community Hospital, Lancaster, Calif. on September 8, 1952 following an accident on US Highway 138 between Palmdale and San Bernardino. He was moving his sister Mrs. Clara Uzcudsen and her children in his car and trailer when trouble developed with his trailer. He stopped along the side of the road to investigate the trouble and was between the trailer and the car, while his sister was out in the highway with a flashlight to direct traffic when an approaching car going towards San Bernardino driven by John Robert McBride, 469 E. Providencia, Burbank, Calif. ran into the car and trailer. Mr. Del Mar suffered severe injuries (night of Sept. 7th) and was removed to Lancaster Hospital. Other occupants of the car were thrown out on the shoulder of the highway with some apparent injuries.
He was a former resident of Mojave while working for the Southern Pacific Railroad as a switchman. Born in Los Lotus, New Mexico on Sept. 27, 1907 he is survived by his wife Ann Del Mar of San Bernardino, his children: Robert 21 US Navy; Phyllis Cordle; Patrick 13; Myn 12; Jacqueline 11; and Barbara 16, his father, Mr. Joseph Martinez, (Santa Fe Railroad-Retired) of Fresno, Calif.; Brothers and sisters: John Martinez, Seattle; Elsie Domingas, Sacramento; Esthel Bell, Fresno; Florence Farrell Santa Barbara; Anna Hughes Barstow; Susan Johnson, Barstow, Clara Uzcudsen and Joseph Martinez of San Bernardino; Robert Martinez, Fresno; Ernest Martinez, US Army, New Jersey; and Arthur Martinez, U.S. Navy.
Inquest relating to cause of death and accident will be held September 25, 1:30 PM in Lancaster, Calif.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, Sept. l7 at O'Donnell Funeral Home Chapel, Mojave, with Rev. Stanley H. Addison, Community Congregational Church, Officiant and Mrs. Leanis Richardson, Musician, Interment followed beside the grave of his mother Mrs Felicitia Martinez at the Mojave Cemetery where she was buried in 1940.
