Death of Thomas Lyons, Sr.,
An old and well known citizen passes away.
Mr. Thos. Lyons Sr., an old and highly esteemed citizen of Houston, who has for years resided in the Fifth Ward, died at 5:30 o'clock yesterday morning at the ripe age of 87 years.
Deceased was born in County Cavin, Ireland, in 1812 and came to the United States in 1835 and engaged in farming in Illinois and was a very successful farmer. In 1875 he sold his farm in Illinois, came to Texas and purchased a farm on Greens Bayou, eleven miles from Houston, where he lived for five years. He then purchased the residence on the corner of Opelousas and and Mary street of the late Parson Henkle and resided there until his death. He was a member of St. Patrick's church in the Fifth Ward, to which church he donated handsome bell a short time ago.
The deceased leaves a wife, three nephews, and two nieces to morn his death. He was a brother of John Lyons Sr, who came to this city in 1859, and after a short stay here moved to Millican, but in 1869 came back to Houston and resided on the corner of Liberty avenue and Carr street until his death, in 1878. The property he bought in 1862 is where the Lyons house now stands.
The surviving relatives are John Lyons, Thomas Lyons, M. C. Lyons, all of this city, Mrs. Bridget Dougharty, Eagle Pass, Mrs. Alice Riordan of Eagle Pass.
The funeral will take place from St. Patrick's church at 3 o'clock this afternoon.
Following are the pall bearers: Jack Kennedy, W. F. Riley, Jas. McAughan, Adam McDonald, Jno. Owens Sr., John Malloy.
