Rebecca Whitlock was born February 3, 1838 in Morgan County, Tennessee and came to this state at the age of twelve years, living near Waverly the rest of her life, until the last eight years which have been spent in Waverly. She was a devoted Christian having been a member of the M. E. church over 43 years. She was of a loving disposition and loved and honored by all who knew her. She departed this life of sorrow and suffering at her home at the age of 80 years, 7 months, 23 days.
She was united in marriage to Jacob Vancil June 1861. To this union were born six children, two of whom survive, namely Lizzie A. Mayes of Lowder and Rilda Whitlock of Concord. Julia, Ida, Josephine and William Franklin all of whom passed out of this life several years ago. Her husband met his death by accident.
She was united in marriage to Benjamin Brown October 28, 1875, who with two step-daughters still survive namely, Louise Adcock of Waverly and Fannie Girard of Jacksonville. To this union two children were born, Oscar and Milton, both having died in infancy.
She has been the mother and step-mother of 15 children, 20 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grand child.
Funeral services were held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the M. E. church. Interment was in the East cemetery.
