Bishop Turner, a native of Kilmallock, Ireland, and professor of Philosophy at the Catholic University of America, was installed on April 10, 1919 as the 6th Bishop of Buffalo. A man of learning and charity, Bishop Turner began Catholic Charities in 1924. More than 30 new parishes were established between 1919 and 1936. Bishop Turner died in 1936. His body lies in Mount Olivet Cemetery in the Town of Tonawanda.
