Stephen A. Grosso

WALTON Stephen A. Grosso, 79, of Walton, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at his home.

He was born Dec. 13, 1926, in Brooklyn, the son of Carmine and Isabella (Spano) Grosso. He married La Rae Dudley on Dec. 8, 1973, in New York City.

Stephen, his wife and son moved to Walton from Queens in 1984. He was a member of the Church of St. John the Baptist. He volunteered with the Legacy Program.

He was a very passionate and prolific spiritual and philosophical writer. He composed many poems, essays and stories. Two of his books were professionally published, "Harry My Friend" and "Experiencing Lourdes." He self-published his most recent book "Pony Rider from Coney Island, a Spiritual Odyssey."

He was an accomplished violinist and loved classical music. He also enjoyed hiking at Bear Spring Park. An artist at heart, he also produced many wonderful woodcarvings.

He is survived by his wife, La Rae Grosso, of Walton; his son, Stephen J. Grosso, and his fianc�e, Elaine Jenks, of Laurens; his one brother, Michael Grosso, of Charlottesville, Va., and his two sisters, Bella Strebel of Riverdale and Anne and her husband, Candido DeLeon, of Chestnut Ridge; his two nieces, Maria DeLeon of Chestnut Ridge and Karen Reddington of Queens; nephew Gary Strebel of Yorktown Heights; and three great-nieces and a great-nephew.

A funeral Mass will be held at noon Wednesday, April 12, at the Church of St. John the Baptist, 15 Benton Ave., Walton, with the Rev. Michael Flannery, pastor officiating.

Burial will follow in the Walton Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Dr., Dept. FH, Oneonta, NY 13820-1319.

Arrangements are by the Lyon Bros.-Way Funeral Home Walton.
