Ed graduated from Lincoln High School and attended the University of Portland. With the onset of World War II, Ed volunteered for the U.S. Army Air Corps, and spent four years in the European theatre. Upon his return, he married Betty Lou Brugman and began a family.
He was pre-deceased by Betty Lou in 1995 and is survived by his sons, Doug McAuliffe, Dennis McAuliffe, and Neill McAuliffe.
Throughout his life, Ed was a dedicated father and active participant in his children's lives. As time passed, he became an adoring grandfather and great-grandfather.
Ed was active in the furniture business as an independent sales representative for more than 50 years. He also served as an executive with Northwest Travelers Association. He continued to work into his 80s.
Ed also enjoyed outside activities such as Little League Baseball, University of Oregon football, and the Seattle Mariners. He was a great story teller, and kept groups spellbound. Everyone enjoyed his stories of past experiences.
Ed McAuliffe is survived by his sons; grandchildren, Kelly Peppmeier, Erin McAuliffe, Corey McAuliffe, Matthew McAuliffe, and Ryan McAuliffe; and great-grandchildren, Will Peppmeier, Jack Peppmeier, and Annemarie Peppmeier.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at River View Cemetery. A reception will follow.
