SAD DEATH
Mr. William C. Smith Passed Away Sunday Very Suddenly
(From Monday's Daily)
It was with a deep sense of regret and feelings of profound sympathy that the news was learned this morning of the death of William C. Smith, a very well known resident of this city and a former farmer of the Brantford township. The demise was of a very sudden nature. The deceased retired early on Saturday evening at the residence of his mother, 506 Colborne Street, and was feeling in fairly good spirits. On Sunday he was stricken with an acute attack of paralysis of the brain to which he succumbed at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon, surrounded by the immediate relatives of his family. The deceased was held in high esteem by all who knew him and was a popular and well beloved citizen. He was born at Newington, his father's farm on the Paris road, in 1857, and was in his 51st year. He was a life long resident of the county and his sudden demise will be received with sincere regret by a very large number of friends by whom he was always held in worthy respect. In politics he was a staunch Liberal and was familiarly known to his intimate associates as "Senator." He was a member of the Sons of Scotland and of the Woodsmen of the World. The late Mr. Smith was also a familiar attendant at Alexandra Presbyterian church.
The deceased had been living a retired life for the past five years, having formerly been a successful farmer on the Paris road. To the bereaved relatives the heartfelt sympathy of a host of friends will be extended in their inexpressibly sad and untimely loss. A mother, two sisters, Mrs. (Dr.) Hart, Mrs. Jas. Heath, and two brothers, Jas. A., township clerk, and Charles G. of Toronto, are left to mourn the loss of a devoted son and brother, whose kindly disposition and genial manner made him a favourite in the home and wherever he was known. A sterling citizen has been called home to the Great Beyond and his loss will be mourned by many.
The funeral will take place on Wednesday from the mother's residence, 506 Colborne street to Greenwood cemetery.
