Nancy L. Cox
March 4, 1934 — October 24, 2002
Nancy Lynn Cox was born Nancy Lynn Pace on March 4, 1934, in Negley, Texas, to Clearance and Winifred Pace. She married Hugh JT Cox on December 22, 1951, in Boron, California. Nancy and Hugh were married 37 years and Hugh preceded Nancy in death in September of 1988. Together Nancy and Hugh had three children, Michael, Debbie and Jeff.
Nancy contributed to the lives and the community of Boron in many different ways during her 52 years in the community. She was actively involved in local schools both as a parent and grandparent; she was the secretary of the Boron Little League when her children played and a supporter of the Boron Youth Football program and many other community activities.
Professionally, Nancy owned several businesses in Boron. She owned and operated Jandy's Restaurant for several years. Nancy left the restaurant business to open Deb's Casuals. Deb's was a staple in the community for more than 20 years providing the women of Boron a local store for women's casual wear.
After retiring from Deb's, Nancy started working as a substitute librarian for the Boron Branch of the Kern County Library. Nancy was a substitute librarian for the last 18 years. Loving the library, she became an active member in the Friends of the Library and was president of this organization for the last four years. Nancy's love of books and knowledge led her in many different directions including researching genealogy on the web. Here, too, she formed many lasting friendships.
Nancy had many interests and loves but her greatest was spending time with her family. She loved attending sporting and community events. She was a regular at football, volleyball, basketball, softball, baseball and soccer games. She was especially enthusiastic if one of her many grandchildren or nieces were one the competitors. Nancy was a true competitor herself, playing Bingo and Bunco with her daughter, Debbie, and friends. In addition to things around Boron, Nancy liked to travel. One of her favorite destinations was Las Vegas where she enjoyed playing "nickel keno" and winning, of course. Nancy's long distance travels included numerous trips to Branson, Missouri and Brookings, Oregon, but she also made many trips to see family, including a trip to Washington state. One of the most memorable trips for Nancy was an Alaskan cruise that she and Hugh took in 1987.
Nancy Lynn Cox passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 24, 2002.
Nancy is survived by her three children; oldest son Michael, his wife Karen, and their two children Ashleigh and Kyle, and Michael's oldest son Chad and his son Bryce; daughter Debbie, her husband Jerry and their sons Kevin and Jason and his two daughters Mary Lynn and Madeline; son Jeff and his children Jackie and Jeffrey; sister Sharon Burgess and her husband Tom and their two daughters Courtney and Michelle Palmquist and Michelle's sons Zachary and Tyler.
Nancy was preceded in death by her father Clearance Pace of Texas and mother Winnie and step-father Walter Miller of Boron. Several aunts, uncles and cousins and longtime friends preceded her.
We will dearly Miss Nancy, but find comfort in knowing that she has gone to a better place and once again has her true love Hugh at her side.
Services were held October 28, 2002 and provided by Stickel Mortuary-Mojave.
