Janessa "Nessie" was born the daughter of Julie Fikstad and Matthew Cunningham. She was later adopted by Virgil Horner when he married her mother. She loved to go to church with her new family, and loved her pink New Testament bible. She loved all animals and made friends easily. She loved nature and she had an incredible zest for life. She enjoyed being a big sister, and was very protective of her little sister, Hannah. She was very creative, naming her cat "Hockey". And the day that she died she picked a purple pansy from the neighbor's flowerbed and named it "Tickle". She was always doing things that were original. She was also very proud to be a "Mommy's helper". The night before she died, her daddy had asked her if she accepted Jesus as her savior and she said, "Yes!" without any hesitation. She was critically injured while shopping with her parents at the Home Depot store, when an employee using a forklift to move lumber and counter tops caused the materials to fall on her head and body. Despite heroic efforts by the doctors, she died. But she gave the gift of life when her organs were donated to save other six other children.
Note: There are hundreds of injuries every year at warehouse super centers, many involving falling merchandise. Please be careful when you are in these stores, they may cost you or your child's life. Other stores with "Falling Merchandise" accidents: Sam's Club, Wal Mart, Costco, Toys "R" Us, Home Base, K-mart, and of course, Home Depot.
