Jack Virgil Poland was born in Pontiac, Michigan to Virgil Edward Poland and Fern Elva Lovelace. This was the exact date of the census of 1930 and his mother and Jack were missing in that year's records. Jack was of Irish descent from his father and Scotch from his mother.

His hobbies included ocean fishing on his diesel boat and scuba diving in the Pacific Ocean. He loved the water and was an excellent sport fisherman. He would take his family to the ocean every month, catching dungeness crabs and spending the weekend at the beach. He had a passion to show kindness and love to the under priviledged of our community and would employ them and have them at our dinner table. He never missed the opportunity to help his neighbor or give Tommy Lee a ride into town. I often wonder what happened to Tommy after we a grew up and moved away.

Jack was the caretaker for the entire family caring for his parents and siblings as he was the eldest son. He shared the responsibilities with his older sister Patricia. Jack spent his entire life enjoying his family and sharing stories about the families before him, asking us not to forget them.

He was a Master builder and built fine homes for many families including his own. He spent a career in Federal Civil Service working for the Department of Defense after leaving the 82nd Airborne Division of the Army. He once retired early in life and then he was asked to return during the Gulf Wars. After another 10 years he returned home to Michigan to spend the rest of his life with his loving wife, children and grandchildren. His deeds were too many to mention as he was about the most generous, humble and unselfish man we have ever known. He cared more for others than his own self and could politely put others in their place if need be. Although he is so dearly missed, we all know that he is looking down and watching over us. Rest peaceful dad, your deeds are done.
