Mrs. Hannah C. Preston was born in Kingfield, Maine, May 9, 1828, and died in Princeville, Ill., August 18, 1912, aged 84 years, 3 months and 19 days.
The maiden name of Mrs. Preston was Hannah C. Hathaway. She was ????? a family of eight children, four boys and four girls. Her father came to Illinois in 1836 and the family followed in 1830. They settled on a farm in Jubilee township, for many years known as the Hathaway farm, now owned by James Hindel.
Miss Hannah C. Hathaway was united in marriage to Mr. Preston in the year 1881. Mr. Preston died Oct. 3, 1899. Mrs. Preston lived on the Preston homestead in Fulton county until it was destroyed by fire with the loss of nearly all the furniture, the family records included. After the loss of the home Mrs. Preston came to Brimfield and remained here under the care of her niece, Miss May Hathaway, until the unfortunate death of Mrs. Elliott, when duty called them to Princeville to care for the motherless children of the Frank Elliott family.
Mrs. Preston in early life united with the Baptist church in Brimfield and remained identified with it until called to her reward.
Funeral services were held in the Baptist church in Brimfield Aug. 30, conducted by Rev. Richard Pacey, and the remains were interred in the family lot in Brimfield – Brimfield News
