"Lucy Gertrude Jones, 97, died peacefully March 2, 2013, in Seguin at the age of 97. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 6, at Rest Haven Cemetery in Brady with Bro. Virgil Webb officiating. She was born Dec.2, 1915, near Paint Rock, to Howell Earl Jones and Eunice Bibb Jones. Following her graduation from Millersview High School, she entered the Brady Nursing School, graduated, and later was accepted as a Charter Member of the Texas LVN Association. She was very proud of this professional affiliation. After her marriage to A.M. (Tim) Jones, Sept. 17, 1937, they moved to Houston where he worked for Swift. During World War II, he worked in the shipyards. After the war, Tim and Lucy returned to Brady to raise their family. Tim went to work for the Farmers and Ranchers Coop, soon becoming manager, until his retirement 31 years later. Lucy worked as a special duty nurse, hospital nurse, doctor’s office nurse, as well as a charge nurse at local nursing homes until her retirement at age 76. Even though Tim’s last name was Jones, just like hers, Tim was from another Jones “clan.” He was the son of John Franklin Jones and Lillie Mae Brown. To his family and many of their friends, she was known as Gertie. They were longtime members of the Fourth & Bridge Street Church of Christ. After Tim passed away in 1985, Lucy remained a busy, independent person until the last few months of her life. She enjoyed playing dominoes, fishing, horseracing and traveling all across the United States. Her travels took her from the West Coast to the East Coast and through Canada and Alaska. Serving as pallbearers were David Land, Robert Jones, Johnny Wayne Jones, William E. (Bill) Jones, Randy Roecker and Thornton Secor. Honorary pallbearers were Gerald Yarbrough, Jackie Campbell, Donnie Campbell, John Rogers, Jr. and Will Armstrong. Survivors include her three daughters, Kadhrann Hallmark of Brady, Juanice Hogue and husband, Larry, of Corpus Christi and Sharon Bettis of Seguin; three granddaughters, Frederica Hallmark Banker and husband, Don, of Austin, Stacy Hogue Rathmann and husband, John, of Fort Mohave, Ariz., Adriane Hogue Bouwens and husband, Rob, of Littleton, Colo.; two grandsons, Tim Hogue of Kentucky and Steven Hogue of Corpus Christi, 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Howell Jones and wife, Jeanette, of Ballinger and Ron Jones and wife, Peggy, of Lometa; two sisters-in-law, Jewell Jones Yarbrough and Edith Jones and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, two brothers, one granddaughter and numerous other family members. The family expresses deep appreciation to the nurses and staff at Nesbit Living and Recovery Center in Seguin for the comfort, care and love they gave Lucy over the last few years. Great appreciation is also extended to her physicians Dr. Sankararao Tam Tam and Dr. Stephen Sokolyk and to the nurses, hospital support team, chaplains and hospice staff at Guadalupe Regional Medical Center in Seguin who provided outstanding medical and healthcare services to Lucy during her brief illness as well as comfort for the family. Memorials may be made to the McCulloch County Historical Commission, Helping Hands or to the charity of choice."
