John was born to Bert and Bess (Hutchinson) Booton. He was a 1950 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs, IA. He served in the US Navy from 1952 to 1956, during the Korean War. In civilian life he worked for Ready Mix Concrete for 44 years, where he was General Superintendent, retiring March 31, 1994. He was a Presbyterian, and a member of the American Legion and Eagles Club Aerie No. 104.
John's wife, Beverly "Betty" died March 30, 1997. And one son, Johnny, predeceased John, leaving his wife Barbara a widow. John is survived by his other three children: Jean Bedlion of Springfield, MO, Jacqueline "Jackie" Booton of Council Bluffs; and James M. Booton of Council Bluffs; and six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
John loved animals, especially horses and dogs, of which he had many -- about 60 horses and several dogs at a time. He also loved to garden and boating.
His funeral and burial were in Council Bluffs on March 8, 2005, conducted by Rev. J. Keith Cook of Omaha.
