Gregor Bernt, 82, of 913 West Third died late Wednesday in a local hospital. He had been seriously ill the last five days. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Cathedral. A requiem mass will be offered. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Westlawn Memorial Park. (Further funeral arrangements omitted here)
Mr. Bernt was born June 14, 1884, in Polk county to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bernt. When he was a young man, the Bernt family came to this community. He and Miss Antonio Nissen were married Jan. 14, 1905, in Grand Island. Mr. and Mrs. Bernt farmed in this vicinity until 1936, when they came into Grand Island to make their home. Mr. Bernt was employed from that time until his retirement in 1956 by the Bartenbach Advertising Company. He was a member of the parish at St. Mary's Cathedral.
He was survived by his wife, Antonio; three children, Mrs. William McLennan, Sr., Lawrence Bernt, of Grand Island and Cecil Bernt of Sacramenton, Calif.; a brother, Albert Bernt of Columbus; a sister, Mrs. Anna Krebsbach of Shelby; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Mrs. Vivian Whitehead.
