LaPIRA. Paul LaPira, 91, of West Hartford, husband of the late Catherine LaPira, died Thursday (July 27) at a local convalescent home. Born in Palazzolo Acreide, Province of Siracusa, Italy, he lived in Hartford for most of his life. He came to this country at age 14, and was employed for his entire life as a barber. He was the owner of the Standard Barber Shop, 242 Trumbull St., Hartford, for 32 years, had worked at the City Club Barber Shop for five years, and ended his career as the owner of the Pratt Street Barber Shop, 57 Pratt St., Hartford. He was a lifelong member of the Hartford Barbers Union. He is survived by a stepdaughter, Mrs. Joseph (Gloria Lesoveck) Payich of Vernon; a stepson, Charles Lesoveck of East Hartford; two nieces, Josephine Cantone of Hartford, and Mrs. Peter Piergrossi of Old Saybrook; three grandchildren, Mrs. Robert (Paula) Casey of West Hartford, Carl Lesoveck of Tolland, and Charles Lesoveck III of East Hartford; several great- grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters, Concetta Benedetto, and Mary Ann LaPira. The funeral is Monday, 10 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Timothy's Church, 1116 N. Main St., West Hartford. Burial will be in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to either St. Thomas Apostle School, St. Timothy's School, or Northwest Catholic High School, all in West Hartford. The D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, Wethersfield, has charge of arrangements.
