C.J. Miller Found Hanging in Stable
Prominent Brownsville Business Man Commits
Suicide Saturday morning

No Reason Assigned For Act
Except that health had been recently impaired
Enjoyed Prosperity and was apparently
Cheerful in all Dealings - Great Shock to
Community

Brownsville, Jan. 25 - The body of C.J. Miller
a prominent merchant of Bridgeport, was found
hanging in the stable near his residence on
Second Street, Bridgeport, about 9 0'clock
this morning, with life extinct giving sad
testimony to the fact that he had committed
suicide.
The suicide was a great shock to the family
and friends, as Mr. Miller was one of the
most highly respected citizens of this
community and no reason is known for his taking
his own life other than that he had been in
poor health for some time and suffered from an
attack of grip a few weeks ago.
Mr. Miller was not quite as well as usual
yesterday. His brother, J. Hiram Miller of near
Uniontown called up on the telephone last night
to ask about his condition and C.J. Miller
talked with him and replied that he was not as
well has he had been but there was no decided
change.
The deceased arose as usual this morning and
apparently was as well as he had been. He ate
breakfast and later went to the stable and a
short time later his daughter-in-law, Mrs.
Clyde Miller, went to the stable and was
horrified to find his dead body hanging in the
stable.
So far as known the financial affairs of Mr.
Miller were in the very best condition. He was
considered a wealthy man and owned coal land
and had for 16 years conducted a general store
at the same location in Bridgeport.
Mr. Miller was a Republican in politics and
had served as school director. He was a member
of the Second M.E. Church of Brownsville.
The deceased was about 68 years of age and
was born in Menallen township at the old home-
stead where the Miller works of the Connells-
ville Central Coke Company are now located.
His parents were the late Hiram Miller and
Mary Johnson Miller, both Quakers. He married
Hannah Moxley and she survives him, with two
children, Clyde, who was with his father in
the store, and Miss Edna, at home. Mr. and
Mrs. Clyde Miller had moved in with his
parents this week.
The deceased is also survived by a brother,
ex-County Commissioner J. Hiram Miller of
near Uniontown and a sister, Mrs. Daniel
Smouse of San Luis Obispo, Cal. R.C. Miller
the liveryman of Uniontown is a nephew of
the deceased, being a son of the late
Robert Miller.
Burial in Bridgeport Cemetery, Brownsville.
