Robert Jack Aiello Cmdr. U.S. Navy (Retired) Son, Brother, Husband, Father Resident of Martinez Robert Jack Aiello , Commander U.S. Navy (Retired), died Thursday, February 12, 2008, in Martinez, California, at the age of 73. He was born December 7, 1935, in Martinez, California. Robert was raised in Martinez by Peter Joseph and Kathryn Patricia Aiello . He was a recognized scholar-athlete graduating from Alhambra High School and San Jose State University. Following graduation from San Jose State University, Robert graduated from Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, and was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Navy on November 1, 1957. Robert served his country in the U.S. Navy for 27 years ultimately being promoted to the rank of Commander. He was awarded several medals and commendations for his service to the country including the Navy Commendation Medal with Gold Star, Navy Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal with Two Stars, National Defense Service, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with Star, Vietnam Service Medal with Eight Stars, Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation Gallantry Cross Color with Palm and Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation Civil Actions Color with Palm. Following his retirement from the U.S. Navy in 1979, Robert continued his professional life at the executive level with many notable organizations including San Diego Federal Savings. He later settled in the Pacific Northwest where he has able to enjoy his love the outdoors and his beloved Cairn Terrier dogs. He had recently moved back to his hometown of Martinez, California, to be closer to his brother, Horace Peter Aiello , and his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. His family and friends all fondly remember Robert for his love of country, duty and family. Robert is survived by his brothers, Horace Peter Aiello and Anthony Aiello , his daughter, Heather Ruth Medina, his sons, Robert Jack Aiello , Jr., Perry John Aiello and Matthew Todd Aiello , thirteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, his former spouse of 40 years, Barbara Ruth Aiello and an extended family of cousins, aunts and uncles in the local area. In lieu of flowers, Robert's family is requesting donations to be made to the Navy League Foundation of the United States, Arlington, Virginia or Alhambra High School Athletic Department, Martinez, California, in Robert's name. Friends and family are invited to a rosary remembrance on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at 7:00 pm and a memorial service on Thursday, February 19, 2009, at 10:00 am. Both will be held at Connelly and Taylor Mortuary at 4000 Alhambra Lane, Martinez, California.
