Mary was the daughter of Arthur Gordon & Nancy Stafford. She died after 1864 in possibly Edgar County, Illinois. Mary married Peleg Rogers 26 June 1806 in Fairfield Twp., Highland County, Ohio. Justice of the Peace, Pillick Rogers.
First record of land was on January 20, 1819 Fayette County, Ohio, Deed Book C. Page 79 Charles Stafford and his wife Nancy of Fayette County, Ohio to Peleg Rodgers for $130 do sell 50 acres in survey 738 adjoining Humphrey Waring and George Free. Robert Waddle, J.P. Fayette County, Ohio.
In 1827, Peleg was on Fayette County, Ohio Land Tax List; owning 50 acres worth $68 by the tax assessor. The land was in survey 738 which is south of Washington C. H. along route 753 & Main Paint Creek. Peleg & Mary are found in Fayette County, Ohio Deed Book E. Page 611 October 25, 1828. Both Peleg & Mary signing with an X; selling the same tract as above listed to Samuel Orr for $200. Samuel Zeoman, J.P. and William Irvin were witnesses. At this time Peleg & Mary move from Ohio in 1828-1829 to Illinois.
Peleg & Mary first appear in Illinois in the 1830 census. In Illinois Public land purchase records show them purchasing 8000 acres for $125 Section 15, township 12N range 13W, Meridian 2 on Sept 16, 1830 in Clark County, Illinois. In 1840 census they are found in Edgar County, Illinois. In 1850 census Peleg is listed as a farmer & are residing in Grandview, Edgar, Illinois. At some point after 1850 Peleg changes occupation & in 1860 he is listed as a grocery keeper with real estate worth $400 & personal estate worth $1000 & both listed as born in North Carolina; residing in Dolson, Clark, Illinois & the last time either of them are found in the census records.
