Born in the border area between Eastern Townships of Eastern
Canada (Quebec) and wilderness areas of northern Vermont, Calno's family lived on the frontier of the Lake Champlain and Hudson River and the great Saint Lawrence waterways. His forebearers were the British Loyalists who came to these areas after the American Revolution as well as traders who lived on frontiers aa part of Britizh/American settlement.
As times changed and the frontier moved further west these figures had to adapt.
James Marcus used his skills to get work with the developing railroad expansion in Nortjern New England and Canada.
He worked for the railroads until retirements, moving residence often.
He died in Chicago srea where he spent his last years.
