Girl Passes Away in Canada

Annette Louise Buffum, eldest daughter of George N.and Addie (Newton) Buffum, was born near LaFayette, Illinois, 25 October 1901. Her childhood days were spent there, and at the age of eleven years she went with her parents to Bechard, Saskatchwan, Canada.

Louise came to Toulon in the fall of 1915 to attend school here, making her home with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William A. Newton, until their removal to Jamesport, Missouri about 1 January 1918, after which she resided with her uncle, E.H. Buffum, and family, until the close of the school year.

Last fall she entered college in the city of Regina, which is but a short distance from Bechard. She was a good student and greatly enjoyed her school work.

While in college she was happily located in the home of Chester Kinter and family, neighbors of her parents at Behard, who had located in Regina for the winter, their daughter attending school there.

On January 11 she became ill with influenza which on the 15th suddenly developed into double pneumonia. The best of medical skill and of tender and faithful care proved of no avail, and she succumbed on January 18, at 4 p.m.

The services were held at the home of the Kinters on Thursday, the 23rd of January, at 1 p.m. and interment was in the cemetery in Regina.

Reverend A.S. Lewis, of the Baptist church, officiated and four boys of the Sunday school were the bearers of the lovely gray casket covered with beautiful flowers from her schoolmates, teachers, Sunday school associates and friends.

Always so well and strong, she seemed to have a firm hold on life and its opportunities, and news of her illness and sudden passing came as a great shock to her relatives and friends here. Having a bright, cheerful temperament and a winning way at all times, she easily won warm friendships with all her associates, among her schoolmates, teachers, and all she came in contact with. Deep sympathy has been expressed by her many friends here, for the members of her family, in their sudden bereavement.
