On September 2, 2003, Justine Vanderschoot disappeared from her Auburn-area home between 11 pm, and 12:30 am in a suspicious manner. It was initially thought she had ran away, but evidence suggested otherwise as her purse, drivers license, and gasoline credit card were left behind. Later, her pickup was located at a park-and-ride parking lot in nearby Meadow Vista exit off I-80. Volunteers searched the area hoping to find Justine and reunite her with her family. Search parties turned out in great volume bringing comfort to the family, and bringing a community together.
