Eugene Winfield Maples
Eugene Winfield Maples passed away at age 72 in Tehachapi on September 18. He was a longtime resident of California City and will be remembered by his many friends here. Gene was born April 7, 1926 to parents Frank and Ethel in Cleveland, Tennessee. He moved to California and started a successful business in Hawthorne, Prarie Custom Upholstery, which he ran from 1962 to 1983.
Gene's first marriage to Dorothy Gerold produced a son, Stanley, now in his forties. On March 27, 1964 Gene and Frances Kirk were married. He is survived by his wife and two sisters Nadine Pusey of Eagle Rock and Dorothy Tapio of San Francisco. He was interred in California City, a place that he dearly loved.
