Mary Elizabeth Adams Mack
"To Know Her Is To Love Her"
Mary Elizabeth Mack (also known as "GAGA" was born in Kentucky on April 2, 1913 to the union of the late George and Fannie Walker-Schooler. She departed this life on Saturday, May 31, 1997 at 1:30 p.m at the Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, CA, and was laid to rest at California City Memorial park in California City.
May lived in Yellow Springs, Ohio for over 50 years. While in Yellow Springs, she was a very active and supportive member of Central Chapel A.M.E. Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, stewardess, floral arranger, consultant and a friend to all.
Mary worked at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio for a number of years as an Executive Administrative Assistant until she retired in 1976 and married William A. Mack from Columbus, OH. They moved to California City and became active members of First Baptist Church. Mary served on several committees such as the 1st Banquet Committee as a hostess. East Kern Hospital District Auxiliary and Women's Division of California City Chamber of Commerce and won several awards for quilt making.
Mary loved poetry and music. One of her favorite poems was "Trees," written by Joyce Kilmer. Some of her favorite songs included "Because He Lives," "Oh, Holy Night," "His Eye Is On The Sparrow," and "I Believe." While hearing the song "Blessed Assurance: as a teenager, she surrendered her life to God. God was always the head of her life.
GaGa was one of the most loving and generous individuals anyone could have known and we all were truly blessed to have had her in our lives. Although GaGa was not always aware of it, she had a tremendous impact on people of all ages. We will miss her tremendously.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 20 years, William A. Mack; one brother, George Schooler of Cedarville, OH; her daughter, Marie Payton from Milwaukee, WI; her daughter Margo Riddle and son-in-law, Ronald, from Northridge, CA; her son Vonley Adams from Elyria, OH; her son Raymond Adams and daughter-in-law, Hilda, of California City; and her son Philip Adams and daughter-in-law, Brenda from Daly City, CA eleven grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, a host of family and friends.
