Wilmer E. 'Ike' Champion

Wilmer E. "Ike" Champion, 78, of Washington Street, Strattanville,
died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at his home.

Born Oct. 8, 1925, he was the son of Joseph and Elmina "Ella" (Hamler) Champion.

Mr. Champion attended the Strattanville School and was a U.S. Navy
veteran of World War II, serving from December 1943 to May 1946 as a
machinist's mate, third class.

Mr. Champion worked at the Owens-Illinois glass plant in Clarion for
28 1/2 years and in strip mining for 13 years.

He was a member of the Foxburg American Legion Post No. 636, an
original member of the Strattanville Water Authority and a member of
the St. Petersburg Rod and Gun Club. He attended the Pilgrim Holiness
Church in Strattanville.

He enjoyed boating on the Clarion River, hunting, fishing, woodworking and traveling out West after his retirement.

He was married Sept. 15, 1947, to the former Irene Fultz, who
survives. Also surviving are a son, Ernie J. Champion and his friend, Patricia Ruefle, of Strattanville; three daughters, Joyce D. Sullivan and her husband, William, of Emlenton, Dana Y. Champion and her friend, Ann Bradley, of Los Angeles, and Kathy L. Champion of Clarion; a brother, George Champion of Strattanville; a sister, Grace Porter of Clarion; seven grandchildren, Tammy Anderson, Tonya Mester, Richard Champion, Rhonda Nail, and Lacy, Lindsay and Lexi Champion; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, David, Clark and Joseph "Pete" Champion.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Goble
Funeral Home in Clarion.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with
the Rev. Steve Fuller and Laura Skiba officiating.

Interment will follow in the Cedarview Memorial Park, Strattanville.
