Waitress Found Dead Mojave Man Being Held

The unexplained death in Lancaster of Maxine Roberts 16353 K Street, Mojave, early Wednesday morning at 2:30 resulted in the arrest of Eddie Galvan.
Los Angeles County Sheriffs Detective Bureau reported the tragedy this way:Maxine Roberts and Galvan were visiting his sister and husband at 45615 North 140th East. The group was drinking and an argument started. Galvan allegedly "belted" her knocking the woman unconscious.
She was put in bed. Later when the group tried to awaken her and failed, the L.A. County Sheriffs were notified and found the woman dead.
The body was taken to the L.A. County Coroner's office in Los Angeles where an autopsy will be performed.
Eddie Galvan was booked for murder pending the coroner's finding.

Services for Maxine Roberts Held Saturday

Memorial services for Maxine Roberts, age 39, were held March 2nd at 2:00 p.m. in Stickel Chapel with Rev. Wm. Brewer officiating.
Born August 30, 1926 in Baxter Springs, Kansas she passed away in Lancaster on February 28th.
A waitress at White's Cafe she was a resident of Mojave for 25 years and resided at Cherry's Motel.
Surviving are: her mother, Mrs. Alma Smith; two sons, Fred Oathout and Gearge Spencer; a daughter, Alma Sue Miller, all of Bakersfield; four sisters, Lue Miller and Mrs. Stanley Blankenship of Monterey, Pauline Galvan of Mojave, and Mrs. Robert Casp or Sunneyvale; one brother, Fred Everet of Oregon.
Interment was in Mojave Cemetery with Stickel Mortuary in charge.

Eddie Galvan held on Manslaughter Charge

Edward Galvan Jr. of Mojave faces a charge of manslaughter in Antelope Valley Municipal Court in connection with the death of Maxim Roberts Wednesday, Feb. 28
Sgt. Donald Betke, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Bureau, said the man is being held without bail after an autopsy performed on the body by the County Chief Medical Examiner indicated that the cause of death was a subdural hemorhage to the left rear portion of the brain
A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Thursday, Mar 7th at the Antelope Valley Municipal Court.
According to the Detective Bureau, Maxine Roberts and Eddie Galvan were in Lancaster early in the morning of February 28th. They were reportedly drinking and arguing, when Galvan alledgedly hit her. Later, when an attempt was made to awake the woman who was in bed, she did not respond and was pronounced dead.
Maxine Roberts was employed as a waitress at a local restaurant.

Galvan Bound Over For Manslaughter

Forty year old Mojave resident Edward Galvan Jr. has been held to answer on a manslaughter charge after a preliminary hearing held March 7th in Antelope Judicial quarters, Lancaster.
Judge William J. Wright bound him over to Superior court and set March 21st as arraignment date in Dept E, northwest district, Van Nuys.
The charge arose over the death of Maxine Roberts of this community.
Bail was set at $25,000 by Judge Wright and the defendant was in custody of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Jail in lieu of posting bail.
