Aaron Washington Helms is the son of Charles Ingram Helms and his first wife, Elizabeth. There is some possibility that her last name was Beasley rather than the more commonly posted "Adkinson" or "Adkison."

Aaron is shown here on the 1850 census with his parents. [Note: Subsequent census transcriptions list his father as Charles "J" Helms, but his father also has a son named 'Charles Ingram Helms,' who has a tombstone that clearly says "C. I. Helms, Jr." This son is listed in various records in Santa Rosa County, FL as C. I. Helms, Jr.]

The 1850 Census of Coffee County, AL shows Charles & Eliza with 7 children, occupation "Farmer." Aaron was listed as 5 years old.

He was paroled at the end of the war in Montgomery, AL in October 1864. He filed for his pension in Enterprise, Coffee County, AL. http://www.archives.state.al.us/civilwar/soldier.cfm?id=87414

After he returned home from the war, he married Margaret Susanna Rudd in Coffee County, AL. They had 8 known children. Their oldest son, James Oscar Helms, according to his tombstone was born on September 11, 1869. If anyone has actual documentation on his birth date and/or Arron & Margaret Helms marriage date, please let me know.
