The funeral of Mrs. August Stratman, 88 was held at 2 p.m., Monday (today) at the Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Donald Mann conducting it.
Mrs. Howard Killion was organist. Caring for flowers were Mrs. Lawrence Baker and Mrs. Julius Blockert. Ushers were Walter Fust and C.H. Pearson.
The casket bearers were Julius Blockert, Martin Hagedorn, Adolph Herzberg, Herbert Muller, Wendell Rope and James Swanson. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery with Hackett Funeral Home in charge of the services.
Lena Rosenthal, daughter of Henry and Carolina Piepenbrink Rosenthal was born March 22,1886 at Minden, Germany. She passed away Saturday August 3 at the Sparks Rest Home, having attained the age of 88 years.
She was baptized in Germany, coming to America as a very small child. She grew up in the Locust Grove vicinity and was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Westboro. On April 10, 1920, she was united in marriage with August Stratman at St. Paul's Lutheran Church south of Locust Grove. The couple continued to make their home in the area where they were engaged in farming for many years. Later in life they moved to Shenandoah where she was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband August and one sister, Ella Vette. She is survived by two brothers, Henry Rosenthal of Conway, Mo.; Ed Rosenthal of St. Joseph, Mo.; two sisters, Minnie Hagedorn and Clara Maas, both of Shenandoah; many other relatives and friends.
A memorial to the Trinity Lutheran Church has been established.
