Charles William "Arby" Arbuthnot, Sr., 77, born in San Francisco, Indiana on August 4, 1924, passed away on November 2, 2001 in Antelope Valley Hospital, Lancaster, CA after many years of living with heart problems. Arby was a long-time resident of Mojave and Rosamond, CA. He served in the US Navy during and after World War II. He retired after thirty years as a firefighter in the Civil Service Fire Protection Branch of the United States Air Force on the Air Force Flight Test Center Team. He spent most of those years at Edwards AFB. He then worked for the Mojave Airport, Calcite of Rosamond, and other jobs in the area.
Arby is survived by two brothers, Harold Arbuthnot and Clarence Arbuthnot, and two sisters, Hattie Fletcher and Bonnie Mitchell, all of Indiana; four of his children, Jacque Hall of Ridgecrest, CA Charles Arbuthnot, Jr. of Palmdale, CA, Starla Jeppson of Boise, ID, and Lisa Sokolowski of California City, CA; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Barbara in 1998 and one son, Alan Lance Arbuthnot in 1984.
The viewing was held on November 7, 2001 and Memorial services will be held on November 8, 2001, 11 a.m. at Stickel Mortuary in Mojave. Internment will be at East Kern Cemetery in Mojave, CA.
