He was a member of the Holy Protection of Mary Byzantine Catholic Church in Homer City. Mr. Ondo retired from R&P Coal Co. after 40 years of employment.
He was a member of the UMWA Local 488 in Lucermines and was former president of the Tide Sportman's Club in Tide. Mr. Ondo enjoyed fishing, hunting and politics.
He is survived by his wife, Mary A. (Bonus); six daughters: Rose M. Henigin, Indiana; Frances and husband Peter Ulichnie, Penn Run; Helen and husband Robert Kost, St. Benedict; Elizabeth and husband John Lee, Indiana; Delores, Clymer; and Magdalene and husband Gary Rodkey, Barnesboro; a son, John and wife Donna, Indiana; 22 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Veronica Davis, Seward, and Helen Jack, Creekside; and two brothers, Steve, Indiana, and George, Homer City.
Mr. Ondo was preceded in death by three sons, Andrew, Thomas and Michael; four brothers, Joseph, Michael, John and Paul; three sisters, Mary Hren, Elizabeth Smith and Anna Glassner; and infant brothers and sisters.
A Parastas service was held Monday and a Panachida was offered Wednesday at the C. Frederick Bowser Funeral Home, Homer City.
Funeral liturgy was held Wednesday at the Holy Protection of Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, Homer City, with the Rev. Cuthbert Jack as celebrant.
Interment followed in the St. Bernard Cemetery in Indiana.
