Edward Berenda
Edward Berenda, 79, Rt. 1, Fair Oaks, died at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Lafayette, the victim of a sudden illness.
A native of Newton County, he wss born on April 18, 1903. He was the son of Joseph Berenda and Anna Dudeh, both deceased.
He was educated at Newton County Public Schools and worked as a farmer.
He was married in Warsaw, Indiana, on June 21, 1939 to Emma Maria Murphy, who passed away on Jan. 20, 1969.
He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and served as Precinct Committeeman for Colfax Township as well as on the Township Advisory Board.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth K. Harrington of Lafayette, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Emily Halstead of Mr. Ayr.
He was preceded in death by one son and one brother.
A funeral will be held at the St. Augustine Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Friday with Father Lawrence Wyan officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Rosary services will be held at the Jackson Funeral Chapel at 8 p.m. Thursday.
Friends may call at the funeral chapel after 3 p.m. Thursday.

Edward Berenda Jr. Killed In Monday Crash On US 41
A rural Fair Oaks man was killed early Monday afternoon and a New York tucker arrested on traffic charges in an accident just north of Morocco in Newton County.
Edward Paul Berenda, jr., age 32 of Rt. 1, Box 19, Fair Oaks was prounounced dead on arrival at George Ade Hospital near Brook after his vehicle struck a truck on US 41 at the intersection with old US 41 about a mile north of Morrocco. State police said the accident took place about 1:15 p.m.
According to the account from Indiana State Police Shererville post, Berenda was southbound on 41 when across the southbound lanes of new 41 in order to turn north on the highway police said that Berenda's vehicle struck the trailer of the truck as the truck was crossing.
Berena was rushed to George Ade Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival having suffered a broken neck and a fratured skull.
Austin was not injured.
Estimates of damages were not available.
State police said that Austin was immediately taken into custody and charged with failure to yield right of way. The case was given to a justice of the peace court.
Berenda though a resident of Newton County, was associatied with the Rensselaer Community.
Rites Friday.
Born in Rensselaer on October 17, 1940, he was a son of Edward and Emma Marie (Murphy) Berrenda. He was married to Sandra Northcutt on January 22, 1962 in Rensselaer.
A lifetime resident of Newton County, he was a 1958 graduate o Mr. Ayr High School, and was engaged in farming.
He was a member of the National Guard and St. Augustine Catholic Church of Rensselaer.
Surviving with the widow are two children, Deborah Marie and David Paul, both at home; his father and one brother, Kenneth Keith Harrigton of Lafayette.
Funeral services wil be held from St. Augustine Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Fr. Richard Riedel officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens. Rosary services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Thursday from Jackson Funeral Chapel. Friends may call at the chapel after 2:00 p.m. Thursday.
