Mrs. Jessie Mae Conine Tanner Allred, age 97, of 13 Springdale Dr., Rome, died in a Huntsville, AL hospital Wednesday following a brief illness.
She was born in Birmingham, AL, May 12, 1912, a daughter of the late Arthur Richard Strickland and Maggie Berry Strickland, moving to Rome in her late teens to work at Tubize(Celanese). Mrs.Allred had been a faithful member of Shorter Avenue Baptist Church for over 60 years and enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers and fishing. She was preceded in death by husbands, Joseph Wheeler Conine, Walter Tanner and Dan Allred. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jo Ann Conine; brothers, Herbert Strickland, Barnard Strickland and Gordon Strickland; sisters, Mozelle Camp and Gladys Molpus.
Surviving is one son and spouse, Bobby (Annette) Conine, Harvest,AL.; sister, Una Lee Parker, Crawfordville,FL; grandsons, Stephen Conine,Harvest,AL, Joseph Conine, Harker Heights,TX and Robert Conine, Madison,AL; great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Joshua and Jamie Conine; sisters-in-law, Margaret Morgan, Rome and Nettie Strickland, Gadsden,AL. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am Saturday in the Shorter Avenue Baptist Church with former pastors, Rev.Max Tucker and Rev.Gerald Rogers officiating. Interment will be in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens beside late husband Joe Conine with Parnick Jennings,Sr.conducting graveside rites.
Pallbearers are asked to meet at the church by 10:30 am Saturday and include Clayton Freeman, Tim Agan, Raymond Holloway, Ross Freeman, Gary Cordle, Buddy Jones, Harold Murphy and Lamar Poole.
