Nettie, or "N.B.," as she was commonly referred to in records, was born in Choctaw Co., MS, to Thomas A. Cameron and his first wife, Nannie Paralee Lever. The mother appears to have died perhaps in childbirth or soon after. Thomas remarried in 1877. Nettie is living with her late mother's sister and her family in the 1880 Choctaw County census. She married W.D. Lovorn in 1890 in Choctaw County. At some point, she appears to have moved to Montague County, where her father and his family also lived after leaving Mississippi (he eventually settled in Ardmore, OK, and died there). Her lunacy file was requested opened in 2015 by the Montague County judge, who released it for family history purposes. She was committed in 1901. Family members stated she had five children and was not caring for them, stated she was losing her mind and was hardly speaking or doing anything except reading her Bible and was escaping the house at night and had to be watched around the clock. Her husband had died six months earlier. She was committed to the care of the state and sent to the Terrell State Hospital. She spent the rest of her life (she lived to be 102) in state hospitals in Texas, finally at Kerrville State Hospital for the last 21 years. She could read and write. Her cause of death was acute myocardial infarction. Her burial place was gleaned from her death record.
