Rita D. Gross of Croydon, NH passed away on February 6, 2013 at Woodlawn Nursing Home in Newport, NH.

She was born on April 27, 1926, the daughter of Louis and Emma (Henault) Beauchaine of Guild NH.

Speaking only French until she was 6, she attended Guild and Newport Schools, graduating from Towle High.

She was predeceased by Gerald "Bud" Gross, whom she married on April 27, 1949 and who passed away on June 23, 1997.

Rita dedicated her life to her family and to Croydon having served 30 years as the Town Clerk. She served as Trustee of the Trust Funds documenting and helping to write a book on the history of the Croydon Cemeteries. Rita was a founding member of the Historical Society and lifelong historian documenting Croydon in writing and pictures.

Rita served as a lookout watchman in the Croydon Mountain Fire Tower and manned the tower during the renowned Grantham Mountain Fire, she was a member of the Grange and the Croydon Good Neighbors club.

Rita was a very talented Craftswomen and taught rug braiding, tatting, knitting, and cake decorating.

During her career she worked at Dorr Woolen Mill in Guild, Green Acres Ice Cream of Croydon, Yankee Barn Homes, and Dartmouth Hitchcock Memorial Hospital.

Rita and Bud using their private funds purchased the first school bus for the town and she became the bus driver.

The family includes her daughter, Carol Sue Marsh and son-in-law, Clyde of Croydon; two grandchildren, Adam Barton and his wife, Jessica of Grantham and Katharine Marsh of Croydon; two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Landon Barton; one brother, Norbert Beauchaine and his wife, Jeanne of Guild, a step daughter and son, Loretta Poppy Blair and Daniel Gross, both of Florida, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Maurice Beauchaine and Leo Beauchaine; three sisters, Elaine Orcutt, Margaret George and Priscilla Colby.

Burial will be at the East Village Cemetery in Croydon.
