Vernon Dain Tyra, beloved husband, father and papaw, arrived in this world on March 12, 1934, in Aquilla, Texas. Vernon went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 2, 2013 in Waco, TX.

Preceding him in death were his parents, John and Lucille (Braswell) Tyra and a brother, Melton Tyra.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Fay Tyra; three children, Mike Tyra, Mitch Tyra, and Verna Fay Dorman and husband, Jim; four grandchildren, John Tyra and wife, Edith, Chelsea Tyra Irby and husband, Russell, Lacie Dorman, and Samuel Tyra; and sister, Bonnie and husband, Ralph Harris.

Mr. Tyra farmed and ranched with his father until he was drafted. He served in Korea, and upon his discharge, he soon married and began his new career in the food business which lasted for 40 years until his retirement.

Fay and the children invite all family and friends to attend the viewing and fellowship gathering on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.

Memorials may be made to the church or charity of one's choice.
