Paul Woodfin Shiflett Dies; Rites Tuesday

Paul Woodfin Shiflett died Saturday at 9:50 p.m. at his home, 17 East Glover St. Mr. Shiflett had been in declining health for several years, his condition having been serious for the past week.

Mr. Shiflett was born in Floyd County, son of the late Frank and Nannie Shiflett. He received his education in the public schools and was a decorated veteran of World War I. Mr. Shiflett was a moulder and prior to his retirement was associated with the Rome Machinery and Foundry Co. He was a 40 year member of the American Legion and a member of the Pleasant Hope Baptist Church. He was married in 1919 to the former Miss Ruby Miller who survives him.

Surviving besides his wife are five daughters, Mrs. G. William Langham, Mrs. J. C. Potts and Mrs. R. F. Patterson, all of Rome, Mrs. H. J. Sigel of Daytona, Fla. and Mrs. Harold Traylor of Warner Robins, Ga.; one son, Paul W. Shiflett Jr. of Rome, one sister, Mrs. Gracie McCollum of Aragon. Twelve grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted today at 4 p.m. at the chapel of the Stevens-Davenport Funeral Home. The Rev. Melvin T. Smith, pastor of the West Rome Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hope Cemetery. The Honor Guard of the Shanklin-Attaway Post No. 5, American Legion, will have charge of the graveside services.

Serving as pallbearers will be Howard J. Sigel, J. C. Potts, Rudolph Patterson, Harold Traylor, Harold Cox and Hoyt Jones.

Stevens-Davenport Funeral Home had charge of funeral arrangements.
