Earle Nelson Schenk, 87, of 1022 Taylor St., died at 7:30 a.m. Thurs., July 15, 1993, in a Hinton hospital following a long illness.

Born Nov. 13, 1905, at Montvale, Va., he was the son of the late Robert and Gilmer Hatcher Schenk.

Mr. Schenk was a 52-year Hinton resident, a retired agent from the Metropolitcan Insurance Company, a member of the First Baptist Church of Hinton, the Board of Deacons and the Men's Bible Class, and was a former Sunday school teacher.

He was the past president of the Hinton Kiwanis Club. While he was president, he was instrumental in organizing a Kiwanis Club at Meadow Bridge and the Key Club at Hinton High School.

Mr. Schenk was a former Boy Scout leader, served as chairman of the Polio Foundation with 26 years of service, served eight years as local chairman of the Red Cross and was a former member of the Selective Service Board.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Phillip Schenk.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Cleo Hackett Schenk; a son, Lynn N. Schenk and his wife, Dolores, of White Sulphur Springs; a brother, Robert C. Schenk and his wife, Margaret, of Roanoke, Va., and three granddaughters.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Sat. July 17 at the First Baptist Church of Hinton with the Revs. D. D. Elwell and Dan Ferguson officiating. Entombment followed in the Greenbrier Burial Park Mausoleum, Hinton.
