Edward E. Anklam, 66, of Midland, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday morning, March 28, 2008 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on Aug. 30, 1941 in Saginaw, son of the late Meldrum and Nellie (Backmann) Anklam. He attended Saginaw schools, graduating from Saginaw High School, where he played football, and attended Central Michigan University on a football scholarship.
He had worked at Saginaw General Motors Corp. for many years as an operator, retiring in 1993. Ed married the former Jean Rondo on Oct. 12, 1979. She predeceased him in 1995. He then married JoAnn (LaBean) McIntosh on March 24, 2006 in Midland. Those who knew Ed knew his love of football. He competed regularly in the Saginaw News Pick Contest and was a connoisseur of football, especially high school and college level. He attended Messiah Lutheran Church. Ed had served with the U. S. Army's 82nd Airborne during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
In addition to his parents and wife, Ed was predeceased by his step daughter, Teresa Lynn McIntosh. Ed's family would like to thank MidMichigan Home Care (Hospice Home Program) for all their help during his illness. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2008, from Messiah Lutheran Church. Pastor John Langewisch will officiate with a 2 p.m. committal service at Roselawn Cemetery in Saginaw. Ed's family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Full military honors will be presented by the Midland Area Veterans. Arrangements for Ed have been entrusted to the care of the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler St., Midland, MI 48640 WHERE THERE WILL BE NO VISITATION.
