He was a son of John Armstrong and Mary Weal Armstrong of Tredegar, Monmouthshire, Wales. His father died in 1864 of apoplexy in Tredegar.

Mr. and Mrs. John Armstrong attended the funeral of the former's brother, Alfred Armstrong, at Wilkes-Barre today.

Alfred Armstrong Dead
Alfred H Armstrong of 40 East Northampton street died on Friday of lung trouble age 46 years. Deceased came here from Wales a year ago hoping to improve his health. He was never married. He was a brother of John Armstrong inside foreman for the Kingston Coal Co and of George Armstrong a bookkeeper for Edwards & Co Kingston, and a nephew of druggist Armstrong of this city. The funeral took place this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Services were held at the home. Rev RE Williams of Parsons officiated. Interment was made in Holenback cemetery.
