DAVENPORT - Margaret L. Jones, 89, a resident of Davenport, formerly a longtime resident of Bettendorf, passed away Monday, May 2, 2011, at Trinity Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf. Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret will be 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at Our Lady of Lourdes, 1506 Brown Street, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be today from 4 until 7 p.m. at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, Davenport, the family invites all to join them at 4 p.m. for a prayer service to begin the visitation. There will be an additional visitation on Wednesday from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. at the church prior to the beginning of Mass.
Margaret Louise Janssen was born April 3, 1922, in Davenport, a daughter of George C. and Mary (Ebert) Janssen. She was a 1940 graduate of Immaculate Conception Academy, Davenport. Margaret was united in marriage to George T. "Tom" Jones on October 5, 1946, at St. Alphonsus Catholic in Davenport.
She had worked for ALCOA in the IBM department prior to having her family. After the children were all in school, Margaret drove a school bus for the Bettendorf School District. Margaret was a longtime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella, and also Our Lady of Lourdes Ladies Circle. Margaret was famous for her chocolate chip cookies often baking 300 a week. She enjoyed playing Bunko, garage sales, and her cat, Snoopy. Margaret and her sisters enjoyed having lunch together on Wednesdays.
Those left to honor her memory are her loving husband of nearly 65 years Tom of Bettendorf; daughters and son-in-law, Patricia Mouchrani, LaGrange, Ky., and Lynne (Gary) Ganoe, Davenport; sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy (Vicki) Jones, Davenport, Michael Jones, Muscatine, Kevin (Sharon) Jones, Davenport, and Brian Jones, Bettendorf; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean Schaeffer, Davenport; and a sister-in-law, Marge Jannsen, Davenport
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers, George Janssen and Harry Janssen, sisters, Dorothy Janssen, Verna Wiseman, and Kathleen Janssen, and her twin sister, Marie Darby. May they rest in peace.
