ISLA GENEVA (IRELAND) SWINDELL
1908 - 2013
Isla was born June 3, 1908, at Bridgeport, Nebraska, the fifth and youngest child of William Edger and Grace (Leigh) Ireland.
She moved with her family to Atlanta, Nebraska and then to a homestead on Springcreek, in the Mascot/Oxford, Nebraska area in 1919. Isla attended school at the Court House and Jail Rock Elementary Schools, so named after the famous rock formations around Bridgeport, The Easterbrook Elementary School and two years at the Mascot High School, Mascot, Nebraska.
She married Oliver Theodore "Ted" Swindell on August 17, 1927, in Phillipsburg, Kansas. Isla was an efficient farmer's wife, a good cook and a good seamstress. She took her grandchildren, her nieces and nephews and the kids she baby-sat on many fishing trips. She enjoyed crocheting and other crafts.
Isla volunteered her time for two years to the Arthritis foundation, transporting and working with victims of arthritis during their pool therapy at the Elks Rehabilitation Center in Boise, Idaho.
She was a member of the Star Senior Citizens Group and the Star Ladies Craft Group. She made and donated many craft items to their annual fund-raisers that benefited the Star Senior Center and the Star Volunteer Fire Department in conjunction with the "Hunters' Breakfast" by the Star Volunteer Fire Department.
Isla enjoyed her returns to the Mascot-Oxford area for several Swindell family reunions and for many Ireland family reunions held in different places.
Isla is survived by two sons, Irvin "Dean" of Boise, Idaho, Richard "Dick" and wife, Lula, of Challis, Idaho; a daughter-in-law, Lorraine Swindell, of Emmett, Idaho; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and numerous friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Ted, her son, Clifford, her two brothers and two sisters, and four grandchildren.
There will be a public viewing on Sunday January 27th from 1 to 5 pm at the Potter Funeral Chapel at 228 E Main Street in Emmett, Idaho. A celebration of her life will be held on Monday January 28th at 1 pm at The New Life Christian Center at 212 S Boise Avenue in Emmett, Idaho. Interment will follow at 3:30 at Dry Creek Cemetery.
We the family, would like to give a very heartfelt thank you to the staff at Serenity Living Home of Emmett and the staff at Heart & Home Hospice of Emmett for the excellent…above and beyond…care that they gave our Mom and Grandma. They were not only her devoted caregivers, but became her beloved extended family. We would not have had her in our lives this long if it had not been for their care, and for this we are very grateful.
The family requests no flowers be sent, but suggest a memorial be made in her name to the Star Senior Center, Inc, Serenity Living of Emmett, the Emmett Heart & Home Hospice, or your favorite charity .
