Resident Killed In Crash
Mojave friends of Mrs. Gladys Jo Haydock, 25, of 3204 Gulf St., Bakersfield, were shocked to learn of her death last Monday night in an auto accident in Kern River Canyon, Highway 178.
Employed as a secretary by attorney John H. Stewart, of Bakersfield, she and her emp1oyer were returning from a trip to East Kern County when the car in which they were riding plunged off the road and down a 135 foot embankment. It burst into flames, burning both occupants to death.
Mrs. Haydock was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stivers of Mojave. Her father passed away some time ago. She was born in Mojave and attended elementary school here. Further education was obtained at Antelope Valley High School.
She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Gus Girard and a sister, Carol, both of Bakersfield; a half brother, Jack Shirk of Lancaster and two daughters, Christine and Cathleen Kostopoulous. According to news sources, she was a widow at the time of her death.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 24 at 10:00 a.m. in the Community Congregation Church here.
Interment will be in Mojave District Cemetery with Payne & Son Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
