Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00PM Thursday (Jan. 24, 2013) at Lowes United Methodist Church (where he was a member) and burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Rites.
A native of Rockingham Co, he was a son of the late William Dewey and Hannah Stadler Brown and had lived in the Williamsburg Community all of his life. Bill sold automobile parts for several companies for 18 years and in 1972 began working for Morgan Driveaway, where he received a 25 year safe driving award. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War; a charter member of: the Williamsburg Vol. Fire Dept., the Williamsburg Wildlife Club, the Easy St. Cruisers, the Tar Heel T's, and a member of the Horseless Carriage Club of NC. He helped form the Scout Troop # 98 at Lowes where he served as Cub Master and later Scout Master. Bill had a love for antique cars.
Surviving is his wife: Frances Matkins Brown of the home; sons: Gene Brown (Patricia) of Reidsville and Phillip Brown of Reidsville; brother: Donnie Brown (Wilma) of Reidsville; sister: Virginia B. Sharpe (J. Van) of Wentworth; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren.
