Death Claims Melvin Litson

Melvin C. Litson, 83, a retired Madison businessman, died at 7:50 o'clock last night following a six months illness. His condition became serious a week ago.

Mr. Litson was a son of the late John and Nancy Litson, and was born on a farm near Kent. He spent his entire life in this county and city. When a young man he farmed but much of his life was spent in the livery business. He served as deputy county recorder years ago under Recorder Lincoln Clever. He was believed to have operated the last livery business in Madison before this type of enterprise gave way to the motor vehicle age. He retired some years ago.

The deceased was married to the late Lelah William, who preceded him in death in 1922. He is survived by four daughters and son, Mrs. Mabel Neal and Mrs. Ralph Horton, of this city; Miss Helen Litson, Mrs. Edna Mitchell and Howard Litson, all of Beech Grove near Indianapolis; a brother, Thomas R. Litson, of Indianapolis; a sister, Mrs. Charles Kleopfer, of Kent; also six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Two sons, Robert and John Litson, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Gans funeral home. Burial will be in Springdale cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.
